OFFICIAL TOURNAMENT RULES

1.  Tournament is Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Friday starts at noon.  Other days start at 12:01am.  Each (recorded) fishing day ends at 7:30pm.  Thats when dinner, dice, and "evening enjoyment" begin at the lodge.  Sunday will end earlier.

2. Those who drink will be at the mercy of their team captain who can cut you off....or more likely, pass you a drink....at will.

3. Back to fishing.....Fish whenever you want, with whomever you want, in whoever's boat you want, regardless of teams.

4.  This is a trophy walleye tournament.  Each angler will record no more than one walleye per day, kept or released.  No fish over 19.9" can be recorded if kept.  All measurements rounded down to the nearest inch.

5.  One master game of dice on both Friday and Saturday night will award an extra 6 (six) inches to the winner. An airplane shot will get two inches (one per team per nite).

6. Total recorded inches will be counted at tournament's end to determine winning team.

Hey , I like it. The yankun tiger musky's. Is moose providing us with team hats???

JRN, October 09, 2008 - 1:50 PM:
Gettin' down to the wire! I for one am pretty excited about getting away this weekend and enjoying great people and great fishing on the Chippewa Flowage!

lg3, October 09, 2008 - 6:07 PM:
excited here as well. and some more good news: anyone who fishes knows about "those days". these are the days when you go out on the water, and everything that CAN go wrong, goes wrong. usually you can't even blame the fish because you cant get your act together enough to get to the fish. well...fear not for this weekend. i had one of "those days" today and it was irritating enough to cover for ALL of us this weekend. clear sailin from here on out!

Ellie, October 09, 2008 - 6:26 PM:
Well thanks for getting that out of the way for us, Lar. That was very kind of you. See everyone Friday night! Safe traveling to all.

lg3, October 09, 2008 - 6:34 PM:
i really am a martyr. have a good trip up, everyone!

alright...so...we had two boats out there hunting for Luther.  i got there around about an hour before Jeff and Larry.  And as a result, I started off as the lucky one.  Casting my muskie rig (ha, don't i sound even more manly now?) with thirty something pound test, a 12 inch leader and a size 12 rapala, I pulled up a 25" walleye, a 17" walleye and a 13" walleye.  Now....in the case of the 25"er, pulled up doesnt mean boated.  I lost her literally halfway into the net!  ARRRRGGG!

I actually came across the 25" in a very funny way (manly is about to give way to dumb).  It was one of my first casts on the spot, and keep in mind I haven't used a baitcaster in years.  Now, I impressed myself with only one backlash today, but did it have to happen on this cast?? Apparently the twitching the lure was doing while I was fixing my reel inspired the walleye to hit because 20 minutes later, I go to reel in, and there she was.  No idea how long she was on the line.  I do know, however, it was half a second too short!  Obviously wasn't hooked "correctly".

Around the time Jeff and Larry showed up, the walleye were suddenly gone.  "Perfect," I thought...this is what happens every single day!  Luther's here!!!!

We casted and casted and casted and casted.  I guess when we hit the required 1000 casts, that's when it happened.  Larry had a big hit just yards away from where Luther lurks, but unfortunately he lost it.

So yeah, thats that for tonite.  Just as many walleyes as I've been catching on my walleye gear.  Makes one wonder....

More fun tomorrow AM.

Lar

Hey team-mate! Pre-fish is for sharpening your technique; quality control is to have the necessary means at hand to effect remedial action before it becomes only of historical signifigance!

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 9:59 PM:
haha, Fred. So today was a quality control day. Tomorrow will be "sharpening".

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 10:27 PM:
p.s. will be workin the bar at tmr starting at 7 tomorrow nite. if anyone's around, stop in! just dont order any confusing drinks...ya know, like cranberry n vodka

Ellie, October 09, 2008 - 5:40 AM:
But, you DO know how to make a cranberry and vodka. And a might tasty one too, I might add.

well, it took two trips today, but I got my three 16's.   got this evening's fish in the same place, in the same manner as this morning.

now...here's the thing.  this lil point I fished today is a new spot ive been workin the past week.  its a beautiful spot, been relatively productive, and of course...close to home.  however, there is one problem with this spot.  A big problem.

I'm not good with this particular type of measurement, especially underwater, but based on one reasonable look at him, I'm guessin Luther is about 4 feet long.  Every day or two - at the same time - he swims up to my boat and says, "gimme that HJ10 and no one gets hurt."  I put my hands up.  I don't even feel it - maybe a tiny "ping"..and its over.  Luther has robbed me of three lures in one week:  two HJ10's and an X-Rap.  He's followed once as well.

Now, the lures are one thing.  They're replaceable and heck, its a risk you take, right?  Ive learned not to get too attached to anything with hooks in it - other than my hand on occasion.  Anyway, I really like this spot for walleye.  So the worst part is... whenever Luther creeps out of his dark alley....the walleye all run for dear life.  My current favorite spot becomes bare.

so....for wednesday, I've arranged for a small posse to assist in the relocation of Luther.  Tomorrow will be my first day musky fishing out here.  Nothing serious, but instead of going out for walleye in the evening, JeffM, another Larry, and I are going to see if we can find Luther.   I know, musky fishing is always a long shot, but after this past week...maybe not!

If I get him, I'm thinking about placing him in Derek's favorite walleye spot.

Will let you know how it goes tomorrow!

lar

p.s. we wont really relocate him.  dont worry, musky guys.  i just wanna see if we can get him in the boat....and just maybe that'll scare him outta the neighborhood!  and who knows...maybe i can even get my lures back from out of his jaw.

Ellie, October 07, 2008 - 10:45 PM:
Lar, I think that since we have CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP we need to go with the Lazy Mutts. More info tomorrow.

Ellie, October 07, 2008 - 10:58 PM:
Looks like quite a day....sunny and no jacket to soaking wet with jacket and a hat. Ahhhh, fall in northern Wisconsin. Nice fish.

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 2:01 AM:
Ellie...now THATS a way to tease a story. You're hired!

Ellie, October 08, 2008 - 7:32 AM:
I like the idea of putting Luther in Derek's walleye spot. Derek is on the OTHER team!! How did he get the name Luther?

Derek, October 08, 2008 - 8:19 AM:
Come on now Lar, not that spot. A few of the musky guides would like it though!

JRN, October 08, 2008 - 9:02 AM:
Hopefully we will be seeing a picture of "Luther" later on today. I am curious too, lar, how he wound up with the name Luther?

walleyemaxx, October 08, 2008 - 9:52 AM:
Hey derek, we're going to have to fish, and drink twice as much now. Jigboy's going to be a no show. Hey capt. mc, whats our team name? How about "the yankun johnson's." Girls will line the banks of the famed chippewa flowage for miles, and a deafaning roar of" go you yankun johnson's go! will reverberate through out the colorfull and usually peacefull northwoods. They will marvel at our expert rod handling ability's as we choke off the compitition in one glorious explosion of filling the fish hamper. Then ...... It's off to fishing.whew i have to rest now.

Derek, October 08, 2008 - 9:59 AM:
Somehow I don't think fishing and drinking twice as much will be a problem! It's a good problem to have though!

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 11:24 AM:
Duh. Luther told me his name. You think fish wear nametags or something?

JRN, October 08, 2008 - 11:32 AM:
I want some of what you're having lar, if you are having conversations with the fish. :o)

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 11:35 AM:
you'd be surprised. im out there by myself, i get a big fish after a slow day. we laugh, we talk.... im a firm believer in "relationship fishing".

JRN, October 08, 2008 - 11:39 AM:
And here I thought I was special being able to speak Portuguese! haha

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 11:44 AM:
i guess u could say im just a different kind of "special"

JRN, October 08, 2008 - 12:01 PM:
Well hopefully some of your "special" qualities will come into play this weekend and help our team record a lot of fish!

walleyemaxx, October 08, 2008 - 3:16 PM:
Hey, greg t looks like a ringer. He's got a bigger one than mine!! Thanks lar, now if capt.mc would come up with a name???

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 3:18 PM:
Maxx, first of all, sorry I havent returned your call yet. Insane couple days. Secondly, Greg can only make it for one full day of fishing, so his fish will be doubled for recording purposes.

Greg T., October 08, 2008 - 5:51 PM:
That's the way I report to all my friends too... I always double the total..lol

Ellie, October 08, 2008 - 6:38 PM:
Hold on there one darn minute!! As captain of the Lazy Mutts I feel the need to protest! Are you saying that if Greg catches/releases a 20 inch walleye on Saturday he gets 40 inches total for the tournament? I know Greg is a GREAT fisherman but....are we to just assume that he would catch another 20 inch fish on Sunday??? Alot can change in a day...fishing could be awesome one day and totally dead the next. Mr. Graf is the rule writer and what he says is gospel but I have to stick up for my team. Thank you.

Ellie, October 08, 2008 - 6:45 PM:
P.S. No offense, Greg.

walleyemaxx, October 08, 2008 - 7:49 PM:
Double the points sounds good! What day can you fish greg? The rest of us will have to be sure to give you the biggest fish that day, no matter who catches it. This is like the blue light special, double coupon day.

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 9:17 PM:
i know yer kidding Maxx...but just to clarify....that would be highly illegal and thereby subject to a most severe punitive response.

lg3, October 08, 2008 - 9:25 PM:
Now...Captain Ellie! Greg IS a great fisherman...a pro in fact. BUT....you're only looking at the one side of it. Greg can fish on Saturday (the one full day). Now...if Saturday is a BAD day, then they would SUFFER disproportionately as well! Any other idears on how to handle this? Greg, maybe Gretchen can fish for you on Friday and Sunday?

lg3, October 09, 2008 - 10:38 AM:
ok...FINAL rule change...i know its not perfect, but we're living with what's dealt, here! Fred's son will be in the boat with him on Saturday. His fish can be recorded. So they will have an extra fisherman on Sat, and they will have one less on Fri and Sun. Greg's Sat fish will now count regularly. No protests allowed. :)

Ellie, October 09, 2008 - 10:44 AM:
Sounds great to me!! Sorry for the protest yesterday.

lg3, October 09, 2008 - 10:47 AM:
oh, its ok. thats what team captains do! just glad i can put the riot gear away now.

JRN, October 09, 2008 - 10:49 AM:
Exactly Ellie! As our captain we would expect nothing less! :o)

was it the pressure dropping?  the rising temps?  the wind shift?  the morning bite compared to the eve?  not sure.

went out for an hour and a half this morning, and for the first time in who knows how long, i found a SCHOOL of walleye!  ended up with six fish in that time.  12, 13, 13, 15, 16, 16.  they started right at 7 and gave way to pike at about 7:30.  unfort, i have an 8am meeting, so i couldnt wait to see if they came in for another round.

all came from the inside corner of a sandy, still-weedy point.  casting into about 3 FOW, and twitching the HJ10 til they smacked it.

i guess all my whining did some good yesterday..hahah...gotta say this:  the coolest thing?  the fish are NOTICABLY fatter now.  I guessed most fish to be about an inch longer prior to measuring, just because of their girth. beautiful color as well...dark gold with big bright white bellies.  i guess this autumn thing DOES have its positives afterall.

here's to hopin it continues.  pics and report this eve.

Go team!!!

Ellie, October 07, 2008 - 8:52 AM:
What a great morning you had, Lar!! SO glad that you got the autumn fishing figured out. Hope that system works for our little tournament this weekend. Speaking of the tournament....Lar says we have to have a team name so if any of my fellow team mates have any suggestions....

lg3, October 07, 2008 - 9:12 AM:
the Lazy Mutts of course comes to mind.

Derek, October 07, 2008 - 9:15 AM:
Okay MC "Captain", since we are thinking of team names, how about the "Sofa Kings" for us? Come on now that is funny right there!

lg3, October 07, 2008 - 9:23 AM:
the Husky Jerks?

Derek, October 07, 2008 - 9:34 AM:
the Castaways?

Ellie, October 07, 2008 - 9:51 AM:
Lar, kinda had the same thought. Any other ideas from our team?

Ellie, October 07, 2008 - 9:53 AM:
By the way, no pics of this morning's fish? Where's the fish hamper?

lg3, October 07, 2008 - 9:56 AM:
Thanks, Ellie...but im not done for the day yet!

MC, October 07, 2008 - 10:01 AM:
I'm thinking Subdural Hematoma...... It's LR's favorite phrase. haha

MC, October 07, 2008 - 10:02 AM:
BTW, is "Captain" just a flattering name for "Cook"?

lg3, October 07, 2008 - 10:04 AM:
oh, my S.H. hurts! lol. as for captain... noooo. it means, among other things, you get to order ppl around all weekend - esp during drinking time. full rules to be released soon. haha

Ellie, October 07, 2008 - 10:07 AM:
Good for you, Lar!! Hope your luck continues tonight!

MC, October 07, 2008 - 10:09 AM:
I think Ellie's team should be Hannah Montana.

Ellie, October 07, 2008 - 10:18 AM:
I DON'T THINK SO, MC!! If you are looking for some other medical terms for your team name, let me know if I can be of assistance. I'd be happy to help!

lg3, October 07, 2008 - 10:21 AM:
Subdural Hanamontana?

JRN, October 07, 2008 - 11:00 AM:
The Double Jointed Shad Rappers! :o)

JRN, October 07, 2008 - 11:17 AM:
Or since there are 5 people, "The Jointed Shadrap Five"

walleyemaxx, October 07, 2008 - 11:30 AM:
I think the names of the teams should be TASTE GREAT and LESS FILLING. that way when we see each other on the lake, we can yell taste great and less filling at each other. That should make people stay away from us!

Fred, October 07, 2008 - 3:49 PM:
"The 4 ------ & 1 ORF"

JRN, October 07, 2008 - 4:05 PM:
awesome tunes Lar!

DancesWithWalleyes, October 07, 2008 - 5:48 PM:
And I thought I was only coming up for a couple of days for some friendly Oct. walleye fishing. Looks like I need to bring my "A" game with me. Since you yourself MC has designated yourself as the cook, I like my steak medium/ medium well.

lg3, October 07, 2008 - 6:57 PM:
"A game"...yes. Friendly - thats still more the point.
